D - DEVOTION

Are you devoted to anything? Now by devoted I mean "Commitment to some purpose." If you are devoted, how did you become devoted. If you are not devoted, what would it take to get you to become devoted?

In my experience devotion is seen in many places. There are some occupation that require devotion if you are to succeed. Here are a few examples:

Nursing - The nursing profession requires that they be devoted to the care and comfort of their patients. Nurses are required to obtain advanced education. Nurses are required to work all shifts on all days including weekends and holidays. Nurses are required to deal with arrogant doctors, obnoxiously demanding patients and equally obnoxiously demanding patient families.

Ministry - Like nurses Ministers must be devoted. They are devoted to obeying God as He has called them to His service. Please understand that this call comes in the form of an overwhelming desire to minister to people. God does not make a telephone call or send an engraved invitation to join His team. I believe that He does create the desire. Ministers are called to minister to people in difficult circumstances and all sorts of tragedy. He see's people at their worse but is called to minister to them all the same.

Public Safety - Police, Firemen, and Emergency Medical people are called to run towards dangerous situations when "normal" people are running away from them. They are often called upon to risk their own personal safety so that others might live. Like the nurse they are required to work at all hours of the day in all sorts of weather 24/365. Like the Minister they see people at their absolute worse and often see the absolute worse in people.

These are just three examples of devotion. There are many, many more that often goes unrecognized. Enjoy your day!
