HOT & STEAMY HODGEPODGE!

Again this week it is Africa hot! The heat has consistently been in the 90's with the humidity in the mid to high 60's. SWMBO, at least, is happy. She really enjoys the heat of summer. I usually hunker down in either our bedroom or her office where the AC units are.
Being Wednesday it is also time for another Wednesday Hodgepodge. Thank you Joyce Daley from From This Side of the Pond for another series of interesting questions. Now...the Hodgepodge!

1. On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your summer so far? Why?
(1=eh and 10=best summer ever)
I'll go with a "5" due to the excessive heat. SWMBO would rate it higher, I'm certain.

2. July 26th is National Aunts and Uncles Day. Did you have many aunts and uncles growing up? Were you especially close to any one or maybe all of them? Are you an aunt? (or uncle for the men who join here on Wednesdays) Share a favorite memory relating to one of your own aunts or uncles or relating to a niece or nephew who call you Aunt (or Uncle).
We had a bunch of aunts and uncles during my early youth. I was close to one of my mother's brother. He played a significant role in my adolescence. He provided a refuge and an understanding ear when I needed it. I really loved him and miss him.

3. What's your favorite food dipped in chocolate? What's your favorite food dipped in cheese?
My favorite food to dip in chocolate is a fat, ripe strawberry. My favorite food to dip in cheese is some version of chip...corn, tortilla, etc.

4. When were you last astonished by something? Explain.
I have not been astonished in recent memory.

5. Surf board, paddle board, ironing board, Pinterest board, score board, clip board, bulletin board...which board have you most recently encountered?
Ironing board? Are you serious? Does anybody use those things anymore? I'll go with a scoreboard. I've been watching a fair amount of baseball this summer and not just the Red Sox. I catch a National League game from time to time also. I do visit Pinterest a fair amount too.

6. What's your favorite story from scripture? Why that story?
I love the Gospel of John, Chapter 17. After they shared their last Passover Meal together, Jesus and His disciples went to the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus prayed. What makes this account so special to me is that Jesus prayed for me. The thought that the Creator of the Universe would pray for all of us, me in particular, is amazing! I cannot put my mind around that fact even though Scripture is clear on that point. (John 17:20, 21) I am one of those who has believed Jesus through their testimony.

7. If you were to travel from the east coast to the west coast in your own country, which five cities would you most want to see?
I would definitely want to re-visit Washington D.C., Nashville, TN, Denver, CO, Las Vegas, NV, and San Francisco, CA.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
Last week I commented upon the Republican Convention. The Democrat Convention is playing out as I write this. It seems that the Democrats are no better organized than the Republicans are.
It occurs to me that modern day politics is more akin to the NFL. The primaries was the regular season and the national election in November is the Super Bowl.
It seems to me that both parties are more concerned with winning the Super Bowl than they are in solving the real problems facing our country. It seems to me that Republicans and Democrats are more devoted and loyal to their party than they are to their country. If there's a conflict between what's best for the country and what's best for their party, they will choose their party every time, even to the detriment of We the People.
I hate being such a cynic, but there it is! Enjoy your Wednesday!

  1. My summer is rated a 5 also. I enjoy a cheese dip for chips. Ironing board-yes I do-and my daughters (28 & 26) cringe!!

  2. It's just so true. Both 'sides' have lost the plot. And I hate the word 'sides' but when the shoe fits....

    Stay cool today!

  3. You are right on with #9 again. My mom had 2 great sisters who were excellent aunts. One was married to the fantastic Uncle Bucky.

  4. Yes, we still have an ironing board...but it doesn't get used as much as it used to--usually only on Sunday mornings, now.
Ed and I haven't been able to 'stomach' much of the convention coverage. So disgusting and depressing!

  5. Yes I still iron. My kids even iron. Nothing better than pressed clothes! I'm not watching the democratic convention. My choice is already made!!

  6. We haven't even watched either convention. Can't stand what it has become. Very sad and sickening, actually. I enjoyed your Hodgepodge!!

  7. I was blessed to read your response to #6, where Jesus is praying for us, those of us who live some 2,000 years later and have trusted Him as our personal Savior.
